Climate envelope

Under the Climate Envelope initiative, C2CA Technology and partners from the concrete chain have implemented several pilot projects, involving the cement and concrete industry, contractors, clients, and knowledge institutions. These projects repurpose various materials recovered from end-of-life (EOL) concrete into new cement and concrete, which are then utilized in various applications. The initiative is funded by RWS via the Climate Envelope.

The initiative's goal is to fully reuse EOL concrete fractions in new concrete, aligning with the Concrete Agreement's 2030 objective. It's crucial to collaborate with the entire concrete chain and experiment with the materials in diverse applications, facilitating a better understanding of how to upscale concrete recycling at the national-level.

As an outcome of the project, a recommendation was made regarding the use of recycled materials in concrete, enabling full replacement of virgin sand and aggregate, including in shrink applications.
